1. Availability and requirements

Readgate is designed for iPhone and supports iOS 15.1 or later. The full gate flow requires a physical iPhone because Apple's Family Controls shield is not available in the iOS Simulator.

2. How Readgate works

Choose an app or website in Settings, then Manage Gates. When you open a protected target, iOS shows Readgate's shield. Tap its action, finish the short read in Readgate, and Readgate lifts its own gate for a limited unlock window.

3. Setup checklist

In iPhone Settings, open Screen Time, then Apps with Screen Time Access, and allow Readgate.
In Readgate Settings, open Manage Gates and save at least one app or website.
Notifications are optional. Allow them for the fastest return from the shield and for unlock expiry alerts.
If Reading Gates shows Repair in Readgate Settings, tap it and follow the on-screen instructions.

4. If the gate does not appear

Confirm Screen Time access and confirm the target is still listed in Manage Gates.
If you use a Pro schedule, check whether the current day and time are inside the active schedule.
Open Readgate Settings and use Repair when the Reading Gates status needs attention.
Restart the iPhone if iOS still does not apply the shield, then open Readgate and repair again.

5. If the read does not open

If tapping the shield does not return you to the read, open Readgate manually. The pending read should appear. If notifications are enabled but no notification arrives, check Readgate's notification permission in iPhone Settings.

6. If the target stays blocked after reading

Wait for the success screen before returning to the protected target. Readgate can lift only its own gate. If ScreenZen, Opal, one sec, or an Apple Screen Time limit also protects the target, remove it from that other blocker or limit.

7. Content and offline use

Bundled Insight Cards and some other content work offline. Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, configuration updates, and some images require a connection. If network content cannot load, Readgate falls back to available bundled content where possible.

8. Pro, billing, and restore

Manage or cancel Pro from Readgate Settings or Apple subscription settings. Use Restore Purchases after reinstalling or changing devices. Refund requests are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Restoring Pro does not restore local reading history.

9. Local data

Reading history, streaks, preferences, and progress are stored on your iPhone. Deleting Readgate or clearing its data can remove them. Purchase records remain with Apple and RevenueCat so an active subscription can be restored.

10. When you contact support

Please include:

Your iPhone model and iOS version.
The Readgate app version.
A short description of the issue and the steps that reproduce it.
Screenshots or a screen recording of the shield, notification, and challenge flow if the issue is setup-related.

Please do not include protected app names, personal messages, or other information that is not needed to investigate the issue.
